Mobile Websites: Answering the Most Common Question
February 26, 2011When speaking with clients about moving their online presence into the mobile arena, there is one question I am always asked:
“My website loads and looks fine on my phone. Why would I need to change it?”
It actually is a great question, and I used to think the same thing! But the more data that comes from researchers and the more I work with “mobilizing” my clients, the more I find it is a faulty line of thinking. By “mobilizing” your site, you gain benefits such as:
- Auto-sensing the phone (or device type) and sending appropriate content to that device.
(The ur mobile system – a Malphurs Interactive partner – can recognize the device requesting your site and thus display its content appropriately); - Enhancing your visitor’s experience by necessitating fewer clicks to get to the information they need;
- Prioritizing content based on the demand of your site’s visitors; and
- Faster page load times.
With an optimized site, your audience is able to view your message more clearly. Replace pulling, pushing, pinching and swiping with a clear picture of your business or organization. The message you send through your site is key in having your online presence meet its goals, whatever those may be.
In conclusion, you don’t need to optimize a site for mobilization’s sake. Rather, you do so in hopes that your online presence can work further to meet your organization’s goals.
